The night I was caught in the middle of a Colombian crime scene
Posted on January 26, 2017
One night after partying in Medellin Colombia, I returned to my room to find several people standing outside my room with the door open and police questing a young man. I suddenly got nervous and checked all my things to make sure nothing was missing. That’s when I found 3 bottles of cologne in my backpack! I quickly told the officers they did not belong to me, they responded in Spanish which I could not understand. That’s when the Australian guys standing outside my room said they were missing cologne. A shouting match of Spanish and English then occurred between the police, the suspect (who only spoke Spanish) and the Aussies. I decided to bring out my phone and record what was going on so I’d have proof if anything serious happened.. Luckily nothing did except the suspect getting punched in the face, which you can hear at :16.
They eventually escorted that young man out of the hostel and I never saw him again. Other than that incident, I would recommend hostel living to any traveler. Hostels aren’t as big in the U.S., there’s one in Seattle called the Green Tortoise Hostel that seems very cool and I hope to check out very soon.
